Sunday School

Everything is shaping up for another great year in Sunday School and Youth Group.  We have approximately 130 children and young adults pre-registered for our program this year and still plenty of room available for newcomers.

As you gear up for the fall, school, sports and all that keeps us busy, you can use this Calendar Link to view a calendar of events of all our planned activities for September thru December.  Also you can download the Registration Form for Sunday school that you can print, fill in, and bring to Sunday School in September.

Sunday school begins on September 12th at 9:00am to 9:50am.  All classrooms are downstairs.  You can come through the bottom double doors and see marked classrooms.

Nursery Staff is run by Chris Mattera again this year with many parents and teens volunteering to help out.  It is open from 9:00-11:00am Sunday mornings.

Pre. K  thru 2nd will be enjoying godly Play with Anne Martens and Mindy Boynton

3rd & 4th with be taught by Sally Giese & Mary Duke

5th & 6th will be taught by Heidi Lottsfeldt in undercroft

7th, 8th & 9th grade on Sundays will be taught by Sarah & Chad DeWolf in Manwaring

I’m very excited about all that is planned this year and will keep you all informed with an email once a month with all that you might need to know about education here at Ascension.

Children’s Chapel
Children’s Chapel is really booming.  Last Sunday I counted 51 heads waiting to hear about the Parable of the Sower.  We continued holding chapel during the summer months, so the children are very use to how it works.  We start with having the children sit in the pew with you for the procession and opening prayers.  They gather with Mindy (Christian Formation Director) in the Narthex during the Gloria, and we walk down the center aisle together and go to chapel in the Parish Hall.  Adults are always welcome to come along.  The children hear a story, usually centered on the gospel reading of the day.  Some have heard the same story in Sunday school but repetition is a powerful tool and we use a variety of approaches in chapel.  All people big and small are invited to attend Children’s Chapel.  Also, on a regular basis, our organist Nancy Whipkey joins us to teach songs and music.  The children perform 3 or 4 times a year during the worship service.
