Food Shelf

The food shelf in the St Croix valley operates under the auspices of Valley Outreach, the blanket organization that includes Dawn’s Closet, The Emergency Fund, and The Food Shelf.

Valley Outreach has been feeding our hungry neighbors since 1983. They currently give more than 36,000 pounds of food to nearly 400 hungry households every month through the Food Shelf, giving clothing, accessories, and household essentials to more than 200 households every month through Dawn’s Closet, and giving an average of $7,000 in emergency financial assistance to about 25 households each month through our Emergency Fund.

Regular Food Shelf Hours for clients are, Mon, Wed, Fri, 10:00 – noon, and Mon & Thurs 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

Ascension is a vital part of this mission. Children are encouraged to bring food weekly to put in the shopping card at the back of the church. Cash donations are always welcome, because Valley Outreach can buy food from places such as Second Harvest for pennies on the dollar. Besides our regular food and money donations, approximately every 14 weeks it is our turn to help staff the Food Shelf. We provide at least six volunteers for each of the daytime shifts. They guide our clients through the Food Shelf. If you can push a grocery cart and read a shopping list, you can help!
