Parish Nurse Ministry

Then Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.  Luke 9:1-2

Deeply rooted in our historic identity as a community of healing as well as an expression of the biblical mandate to love one another, parish nurse ministry is a specialty practice that intentionally seeks the integration of faith and health.  Care of the body-mind-spirit or holistic practice is essential, and care of the spirit is central.  The practice of parish nurse ministry is as unique as the community each parish nurse serves.  However, all parish nurses embrace the following roles:  Health Educator, Health Counselor, Referral Advisor, Health Advocate, Developer of Support Groups, and Volunteer Coordinator.

While parish nurse ministry is in its second year within the Ascension community, we share in the wisdom and experience of the St. Croix Valley Parish Nurse Program which, in partnership with the Lakeview Hospital Foundation, has been providing service to the St. Croix Valley and surrounding community for over 10 years.  The parish nurse ministry at Ascension focuses on relationship building, the integration of faith and health, the development of a lay pastoral visitation ministry and ongoing research on the available resources within the St. Croix Valley to meet the needs of our members and friends.

If you would to respond to the Congregational Health Assessment, a survey that parishioners completed during Sunday services on November 6, the form is attached here for you to complete, anonymously if desired, and leave in the parish nurse mailbox. The information gathered will give a snapshot of health needs identified by parishioners as well as parishioners' interests for healing and wellness activities. A summary of the results of the survey will be shared back with congregation. If you still need to fill out your survey, follow this link: Congregational Health Assessment. If you have questions, please call Andrea Johnson.
