St. Martha’s Guild

When a funeral or memorial service is scheduled at Ascension, the Guild offers to arrange a reception in the parish hall following the service.  This important ministry provides a spiritual setting for the bereaved family to greet and visit with their extended families and friends.

A reception typically involves light refreshments (like cookies, bars, and beverages), which are prepared by members of the Guild (as well as other members of the congregation), and served by members of the Guild.  If a luncheon is requested, the Guild coordinates necessary arrangements with the family.

We invite anyone to join or help occasionally – no training is required.  On average, a reception involves a time commitment of 3-4 hours, and helps provide comfort and caring to families at a time of sorrow.
