Mission trip to Uganda “Give us Wings”

Deacon Brenda will travel to Uganda in March with a six-member mission team from St. John the Evangelist to provide supplies and volunteer support at Give Us Wings. Founded in 1999 by St. Paulite Mary Steiner and her daughter Shawn, this non-profit is dedicated to rebuilding villages and restoring hope in Kenya and Uganda through education, health care, and economic sustainability. See their website at www.giveuswings.org. St. John’s raised $75,000 to help build a clinic in remote Kayoro. The nearest large city is Kampala, which is about 200 miles away. The clinic recently opened a maternity wing, for which medical supplies (see attached list) and “Mama Kits” are desperately needed. This mission trip is focusing on collecting and delivering over-the-counter medicines that are on the medical supplies list and Mama Kit items:

OTC medicines/vitamins:
ibuprophen
acetaminophen
prenatal vitamins
children’s vitamins
iron pills
antibiotic ointment
cortisone cream
Imeprazole

“Mama kits” for post-delivery:
onesies (newborn size)
receiving blanket
4 x 4 gauze (5)
alcohol swabs (2)
washcloth and soap
large chux pads (waterproof pads for post-delivery)
gallon size zip lock bag

A basket will be placed in the South Entry hallway to collect donations of any of these items parishioners may want to make. They will be blessed at church services on Sunday, February 25, at which time Deacon Brenda will be given a sending-blessing for her mission trip.
