January 2012 Vestry Verbiage
Vestry Verbiage Linda Amrein, Sr. Warden January 16, 2012
The Rev. Buff Grace opened the January 16 vestry meeting with prayer. The following items or concerns were addressed at the meeting that evening:
- Approved vestry minutes of December 19, 2011 with correction.
- Discussed and approved December 2011 financial reports presented by treasurer, Christina Arndt. Steve Smith has had ongoing discussions with US Bank regarding refinancing our mortgage; we designated Christina to oversee the finalization of this process, which the incoming vestry will need to approve.
- Written reports were received, including the Nominating Committee's slate for vestry elections at the annual meeting on January 29. The current slate includes the following: Senior Warden, Katie Keller; Junior Warden, Mark Schwantes; Treasurer, Christina Arndt; Vestry, 3 positions: Lori Allaire, Bob Gerhard, Frank Langer. Additional nominations can be made from the floor. Bishop Prior will visit Ascension on Ascension Day, May 17, to conform our current confirmation candidates. Save the date!
- Sue and Frank Langer offered to be Ascension's co-chairpersons for Valley Outreach's March 2012 community food drive. They gave a presentation about this church-targeted campaign with its slogan "Pack the Pews." Look for specific information in the coming weeks!
- After much discussion (yes, sometimes lively!), a proposed 2012 annual budget was approved. Mike Anders and Bill Giese, members of the Finance Committee, gave us their thoughts and recommendations. The budget, with possible changes reflecting updated income and mortgage interest, will be presented at the annual meeting.
- Approved up to $2600 expenditure to replace two door latches at our front (east) entrance, on recommendation of the management team.
- Next vestry meeting is February 20 at 7:00 pm in parish hall.
